Convincing them of its importance. If you can tell them about the success they will by into it if the relationship you have with the students is sound.
Prior knowledge is something that can be given while they are learning the process. Prior knowledge helps but isn't necessarily pertinent.
As a teacher we can't fix network issues but we can have a backup plan just in case. However our school is making changes right now that will hopefully make the issue non existent.
Time is probably the biggest issue. I think in the beginning this will be an issue but once it's learned and the students begin buying in it will become less of an issue. As I get better with it they will get better.
Coach Voth, you are correct that over time, some of the barriers that you mentioned will begin to crumble. Remember to take it just one step at a time. Sometimes crushing barriers is a process, but once the wall is down, learning will expand!
